Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the format for the conference?

The family conference is 1.5 days long; it begins on Saturday morning and concludes on Sunday afternoon. All educational sessions will take place in the same room with back-to-back speakers followed by Q & A panels; this way, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

What is the dress code?

Most attendees will feel comfortable wearing casual clothing or business-casual clothing. The conference center is air conditioned, so please be sure to bring a sweater in case you get cold. Outside temperatures in Denver are typically pleasant during the day, with temperatures in the 70s - low 80s. Evening can be chilly, in the 50s and even as low as the 40s. Please pack accordingly.

Here is a link to Weather Channel 10-day forecast for the Denver area.

Altitude

Denver, the "Mile-High City" is located in the Rocky Mountains, at an elevation of 5,280 feet (one mile). Please stay hydrated and use sunscreen. For information about travel to higher elevation, please visit the CDC's webpage:

My child is on the ketogenic diet. Will they be accommodated?

We cannot guarantee that the hotel can accommodate an exact ketogenic diet but we will try our best to work with the hotel to ensure a variety of options are available. Westin Westminster hotel rooms have refrigerators.

Is there an additional charge for more than two people in a room?

We have negotiated a discounted room rate of $169 per night for double occupancy. The hotel’s room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes (currently 12.5%) in effect at the time of check-out. Each additional person, over double occupancy, is $10.00. Children seventeen (17) years and under are free when occupying the same room as their parents. It is understood that adults with disabilities may have an adult attendant, which the additional occupancy charge shall not apply under the American Disability Act.

Is there free parking at the hotel?

Yes, there is free parking at the Westin Westminster.

Is there a way to get the most affordable flight?

One option that you can use to track flights and which airlines and dates have the best options is www.google.com/travel/flights. Google can email you when flight pricing goes up or down based on the parameters that you set.

Are the registration fees refundable?

Unfortunately, we are unable to refund registration fees once they are processed.

What is there for my family to do in the area?

The Westin Westminster is located halfway between Denver and Boulder.

The Westin Westminster is part of the Westminster Promenade complex: shopping, resturants and entertainment including a movie theater, bowling alley and ice skating.

Adjacent to the hotel is Westminster City Park, with 205-acres of soccer & softball fields, disc golf, a playground, pavilions & trails. All guests at the Westin will receive free passes to the City Park Recreation Center  https://www.westminsterco.gov/ParksRecreation/RecreationCenters/CityParkRecreationCenter

The nearby Butterfly Pavilion (https://butterflies.org/) is a 7-minute walk from the hotel.

For more information about family-friendly activities in the Denver area, visit https://www.denver.org/things-to-do/family-friendly/

If I would like to stay extra days at the conference hotel, will the hotel honor the discounted rate?

The discounted hotel rates are available for our in-person conference attendees for up to 3 days prior to the conference start date and 3 days after the last day of the conference, as long as their hotel reservations are made through our conference registration link. This allows families to extend their stay and enjoy the Denver area before or after attending the conference.

Who will be attending the meeting?

We expect the conference to be comprised of CHD2 family members and caregivers, as well as scientists / researchers, industry professionals, and advocacy representatives.

I can't attend in person. Can I still view the sessions?

Yes! A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend the conference in person.

Is financial aid available to help me attend in person?

A limited number of scholarships will be offered to CHD2 families to help offset costs of registration fees and hotel accommodations (up to two nights). The application to apply for a scholarship will open early 2025.

Are meals included?

Light reception is provided on Friday evening; breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided on Saturday; breakfast is provided on Sunday.

Will there be childcare?
